The thunderbird for ford was designed to be a sports car and after the first few years of people falling in love with the style and features it kind of morphed into a luxury brand for the ford motor company. The iconic '55-'57 thunderbirds were very impressive with its cutting edge style, dual tops and performance for the thrill seeker. Unfortunately the years went by and the name plate fell into some less desirable "square birds" and the dreadful 70-80's that should have killed the model. Ford sparked a movement with the debuting of the thunderbird in 2002 with the launch of a special edition and limited production of the car with many styling ques from first edition thunderbird, such as the iconic portholes for the hard top, both tops, and front and rear end looks. Finally for 2005, ford hung the anniversary badge on the car to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the thunderbird with unique badging and standard features of the heated seats, automatic climate control, audiophile stereo with 6cd in dash, and 17in 7-split spoke chrome wheels. This vehicle was further optioned with the factory hard top, select shift transmission and the soft top boot cover. With a msrp of $41,865 these cars were a bargain, but so many were sold for a premium over the list price as the demand was strong for them. Ford was looking for something to compete with the chevrolet corvette which started to show quickly as a popular segment but didn't want to pursue the sports car necessary but created a segment all of its own. With the clever marketing plan in place, ford began the production of the ford thunderbird in 1955 as a personal car segment and although it was very much a sporty two-seater convertible just like the corvette, it paid more attention to luxury and comfort more so than the competition. This model did not inherit its second row of seats until 1958 and from there it slowly but surely grew in size, generation after generation until 1977 when the larger cars lost their popularity in the market. The thunderbird was one of the longest lasting nametags for ford and started strong by selling 23 models for every one corvette sold when it first hit the market. The only changes completed between its inception model to 1956 was moving the spare tire to a continental-style rear bumper in order to make more room within the trunk. Featuring what is believed to be the original 292 v8 engine mated to its smooth shifting 2-speed automatic transmission that has just recently been rebuilt, this vehicle has clearly had a lot of love and attention to the drivability. Many improvements have been made to this sharp ride including a 12 volt conversion, tell-tale signs of a full engine rebuild prior to its current owner who has had it for the last couple years, all gauges work like new, a retro-styled modern radio installed, rebuilt speedometer, new stainless steel gas tank, new exhaust and fresh light bulbs and lamps. The interior is standing tall with its classic red and white vinyl seating, the power windows work great and not enough can be said for how little to no work is left for its next lucky owner. Makes every effort to represent each vehicle accurately and with integrity. We also welcome third party inspections when necessary.
